The Sekumade of lpakodo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Bashir Sotonwa, the Executive Chairman of the Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. (Princess) Jumoke Jimbo – Ademehin and the Council Leader, Hon. Wasiu Agbaje Olomu, have pleaded with the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to extend the construction of the Oba Sotonwa Close to Solebo Estate.
They made the appeal on Monday, May 4, 2020, when the Council Chairman led her cabinet and members of the council’s legislative arm on inspection of the road which is currently under construction.
They also commended the governor for embarking on the construction of the road despite challenges being faced by the state due to the lockdown order issued as part of the measures to curtail the spread of Coronavirus but which has put financial strains on the state.
The road that is being constructed link Solebo Estate which is another big community in the council area. The two communities are currently being separated by a swamp and a makeshift wooden bridge was constructed by the residents of the two areas to link both.
The construction of Oba Sotonwa Close has increased the height of the road and this has resulted in flooding issue in Solebo Estate during rainfall.
Meanwhile, Hon. Ademehin and her team, during the inspection of the road, also visited chieftains of the Solebo Community Development Associations (CDA) to assure them that the council would appeal to the state government to do something about the situation.
The team also visited His Royal Majesty, Oba Bashir Sotonwa who resides on the street under construction.
While thanking the state government for coming to the community’s aid with the construction of the road, Oba Sotonwa described the state of the road before construction as an eyesore.
He said that residentsof the community is very appreciative of the governor’s gesture.
The monarch, however, pleaded with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to assist in extending the construction work to Solebo Estate to link it to Oba Sotonwa Close.
Also speaking with THE IMPACT, Hon. Ademehin thanked the governor for the rehabilitation of the road and added that she considers the ongoing construction exercise work as first phase of the construction work which she said would eventually be extended to Solebo Estate.
“The purpose of this inspection is to appreciate the state governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for this good job in our area. This is part of the governor’s work that has enabled our people to feel the impact of his administration.
“This is a project that is beyond the council and the governor’s intervention is very much appreciated. We are here to let our people know that this is a project that the state government has brought to us so that they can appreciate the government”.
Speaking further, Hon. Ademehin said:
“Actually, there has been agitation from our people at Solebo Estate that they want a bridge to link the community to Ebute instead of the makeshift wooden bridge that is there presently.
“I want to believe that this is the first phase of the road being constructed by our governor. I want to believe that the second phase would extend into Solebo Estate with the construction of a bridge”, she stated optimistically.
“I also want to use this medium to appeal to our governor to help in making the second phase connects Solebo Estate”, she pleaded.
Hon. Wasiu Agbaje Olomu, the Council Leader, while also speaking with our reporter during the inspection, was also full of appreciation for the governor.
“On behalf of other councilors and the entire good people of Ikorodu West LCDA, we want to thank our amiable governor for bringing this to our local government. At the same time, we are also appealing to him to do the second phase of the construction to link Solebo Estate in the interest of our people”, he pleaded.
“That would make the project very laudable and people of Ikorodu West would be eternally grateful”.
